Angling Rules

GENERAL ANGLING RULES

  1. Maximum of 2 rods and No night fishing – dawn to dusk only.
  2. The use of bait boats are not permitted on any Tring Anglers Waters
  3. The use of fixed bolt rigs is not permitted and the use of safe rigs whether using lead weights or swim feeders is always to be adhered to. Rig checks will be completed by bailiffs for the safety of fish stocks and education of anglers.
  4. Braid can be used as a mainline but it must be fished with a minimum 30” (76 CM) Mono leader. The leader must have a lower breaking strain/ must be weaker than the mainline
  5. Suitable unhooking mats and landing nets for the species targeted must always be used and all fish must be safely returned to the water unharmed. No fish to be moved between waters or removed from site.
  6. Fishing equipment should not obstruct public footpaths.
  7. Anglers must fish the swim immediately in front of them and not space rods to spoil the sport of other anglers. (On open banks please adhere to EA regulations and allow 15 yards between anglers.)
  8. No baited hooks to be left on the bankside
  9. No fires or disposable BBQ’s Only purpose designed BBQ’s or cooking/camping stoves.
  10. No litter to be left on the fishery. If it is in your swim YOU are responsible to remove it.
  11. Transistor radios, portable stereos or similar equipment can be used on site provided they do not create a disturbance to other anglers or the general public.
  12. No dogs are permitted whilst fishing. Season ticket holders may bring authorised dogs with the prior permission of a bailiff. You’re fully responsible for the dog’s behaviour and cleaning up after the dog. If the dog is deemed to be out of control, you may be asked to leave the premises, or even forfeit your membership depending on the incident’s severity.
  13. Avoid disturbing the wildlife and their habitat 
  14. Guest Tickets must be purchased in advance (by contacting: tringanglers1947@gmail.com) or your guest will be asked to leave.
  15. Guest’s behaviour is the total responsibility of the member and they’re expected to fish the same or the closest peg to the sponsoring member (More info).
  16. Memberships and Day tickets must always be carried whilst fishing. 
  17. Season permit holders have full authority to check the membership credentials of other season permit holders and must report any incidents immediately to the bailiff team.
  18. Permission must be obtained from the Tring Anglers/Head Bailiff prior to any member wishing to coach, film, produce written media or in any way angle for commercial purposes with intent to post to their personal/private social media (i.e. Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, X.com etc.) Posting of any information to a public domain is strictly prohibited. Non-compliance can result in loss of membership.
  19. All anglers must have a valid EA Rod License. Anyone caught fishing without a valid license will immediately receive a ban and their details passed to the EA.
  20. Anglers must comply with official bailiffs and any reports of abuse will potentially result in a ban.

In the event of an angler not adhering to the fishery rules The Tring Anglers retain the right to withdraw the permit without recourse to a refund and for that person to be barred from fishing any of the Tring Anglers waters (see Club Terms for more info).

RESERVOIR ANGLING RULES

(To be followed in addition to the general rules)

  1. NO LURE FISHING at any time.
  2. The maximum of 4 rods to be used at Wilstone and Startops. The maximum of 3 rods to be used at Marsworth (Maximum of 4 rods During the pike season – subject to availability)
  3. The pike season for live baiting, dead baiting will run from 1st October to 31st March
    • Live baits must be caught from the water that the angler is fishing and must not be removed from the nearby Grand Union Canal or brought in from another fishery.
    • Unused Live Bait should be returned in good health. It is an offence under the 1968 Theft Act to remove fish off site. 
  1. Keepnets are not permitted except in club matches or with permission from the committee 
    • Fish of 10lb or more are never to be retained in a keepnet.
    • Only appropriate retention sacks designed for the species and size are permitted.
    • Retention is permitted for fish welfare, weighing or photographic purposes only.
    • Fish are to be retained for no more than 30 minutes unless they have bailiff permission to do otherwise.
  1. No ‘constant lights’ are permitted. Only the use of a head torch or pocket torch is permitted.
  2. Bivvies’ and other equipment is permitted to be left unoccupied for no more than 4 hours. Any equipment left unoccupied is entirely at the owners’ risk. 
  3. To prevent damage to valuable fish stocks, extreme care must be taken when landing, lifting any fish up the reservoir walls and handling. Failure to comply could result in a 5 year or lifetime ban.
  4. In the following events, you must contact a bailiff: 
    • If you get snagged/ or lose tackle beyond your safe reach so that it can be retrieved or disposed of safely to prevent any harm to wildlife.
    • If a fish is snagged or there is an immediate risk to fish welfare.
  1. Pre-baiting a peg prior to fishing is not permitted.
  2. Night fishing is only permitted to reservoir members on the waters outlined in their permit only.
  3. When night fishing at Marsworth, if a match or event is booked on the peg that you are occupying, You must cease fishing and the peg should be free by 6:30am.
  4. The maximum stay at any peg will be 96 hours, with no return to that water for 24 hours.
  5. No reserving a swim for yourself or someone else etc.
  6. Boats are to be used only by Boat Permit members and on Startops reservoir only. 
    • Boat Permits are available to full reservoir permit holders by contacting: tringanglers1947@gmail.com.
    • Boats may only be used between 1 hour before sunset and 1 hour after sunrise.
    • No fishing is to take place from the boats. The use of boats for landing fish is only in the event where fish safety is of concern (such as a heavily weeded or snagged fish). 
    • Boats may only be used for depositing hook baits, baiting, raking swims and for putting out markers at the permitted times. 
    • Boats should not be used for any activity beyond the casting distance of the angler. 
    • Fishing markers must be removed from the water after a fishing session, unless it is unsafe for them to be retrieved in which case you should contact the bailiff team. 
    • Life jackets must be worn and boats must be purpose designed for the situation.
    • Canal River Trust and The Tring Anglers will accept no responsibility for all Health and Safety issues relating to the use of boats.

Any incidents or infringement of the rules regarding boats could result in a 5 year or lifetime ban due to the nature of the venue and permissions granted to the club.
